Sturgeon resettlement project

Uta-Regina Hauft is Head of Corporate Communications at viadonau, the Austrian waterway company. She reports on a unique species conservation project on the Danube: the conversion of the ship Negrelli into a floating breeding centre for endangered sturgeon species. As part of the EU project ‘LIFE-Boat4Sturgeon’, around 1.6 million young fish are to be reared and released into the wild by 2030. Hauft shows how viadonau promotes biodiversity through targeted public relations work, visitor concepts and interdisciplinary cooperation, while at the same time raising public awareness of ecological responsibility in waterway management.
