Esterházy Castle in Tata

Get a proper introduction to one of Hungary’s most powerful noble families on this immersive day trip. With a lineage traced to the 13th century, the Esterházy have been part of the high nobility since 1687. Drive to Esterházy Castle in Tata, where your guide leads you through the neo-Rococo Great Hall, Library, Countess’ Suite, and childrens’ playroom with a dollhouse that’s a full-scale replica of the palace. Your visit ends with a slice of Esterhàzy torte, created by Hungarian bakers in the 20th century. Then, visit the peaceful former Camaldolese Hermitage of Majk. Built in 1733, it has preserved the original cell houses of the hermits, whose vow of silence only allowed them to speak to each other once a year.

Schloss Esztergom

Day 1: Journey into Hungarian Nobility

Begin your day with a visit to Esterházy Castle in Tata. Get an insightful introduction to one of Hungary’s most influential noble families, whose lineage dates back to the 13th century. A guided tour will take you through the neo-Rococo Great Hall, the extensive Library, the elegant Countess’ Suite, and the charming children’s playroom featuring a dollhouse that’s a full-scale replica of the palace. Conclude your visit with a slice of Esterházy torte, a delicious cake created by Hungarian bakers in the 20th century. Next, travel to the serene former Camaldolese Hermitage of Majk. Built in 1733, this site has preserved the original cell houses of the hermits, who lived under a vow of silence, speaking only once a year. 
 

Later, head to Esztergom and check in at the Portobello Wellness & Yacht Hotel. Spend the afternoon unwinding at the spa, enjoying the luxurious facilities.
In the evening, enjoy a delightful dinner at the hotel's restaurant, featuring a selection of local and international dishes, and settle into your comfortable accommodation for a restful night.

 

Day 2: Discovering Esztergom

Start your day with a hearty breakfast at the hotel. Visit the Bibliotheca in Esztergom, one of Hungary’s largest church libraries. Take a short tour to discover its unique collection of treasures, guided by an expert. Then, explore the vibrant Esztergom Market, where you’ll experience a new gastronomic offering inspired by local products. Spend time with Michelin-star chef Ádám Barna at the Piac42 bistro, meeting local producers and a goat breeder who will reveal the hidden secrets of Hungarian gastronomy. Afterward, enjoy some free time to wander the market at your leisure, sampling local goods and experiencing the lively community atmosphere.
