The Danube Limes – Border, Lifeline, World Heritage

Mag. Dr. Stefan Traxler studied classical archaeology, ancient history and archaeology at the University of Salzburg and is the collection manager for Roman, medieval and modern archaeology at the Upper Austrian Provincial Museum. In 2021, the Danube Limes from Bavaria to Slovakia was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Other countries in Eastern Europe are currently working on expanding this serial and transnational cultural heritage site. His lecture covers the Danube as an important border of the Roman Empire and as a significant transport and lifeline. The rich legacy of Roman culture invites us to tell stories about history.
