Highlight events in the Danube Region of Lower Austria

Spring feelings & wine festivals
Breathe in the fresh air of spring while delighting in an impressive UNESCO World Heritage landscape. The Wachau is transformed into a pink and white sea of fragrant blossoms just in time to open the season. Every year the buds on the 100,000 or so apricot trees immerse this UNESCO World Heritage landscape into delicate pastel hues.

The wachau GOURMETfestival is a definite must for all gourmets and bon vivants. Big names, exciting newcomers, many an unusual venue and all of this in the midst of the stunning scenery that is the Wachau, a UNESCO World Heritage region. An extraordinary and high-caliber program will be staged again this year from 23 March to 6 April.

During Wachauer Weinfrühling (Wachau Wine Spring) on 6 & 7 May, 100 winemakers belonging to Vinea Wachau invite the public to sample the 2016 vintage. The highlight of Weinfrühling is
Steinfeder Night on Saturday, 6 May at the castle in Spitz. The Tour de Vin takes place at the same time as Weinfrühling and is sponsored by an association of traditional Austrian wineries. Around 31 wineries invite all wine enthusiasts to “sample, chat, buy”! Details of the program will follow in February and March 2017. The Wagram wine region stages a spring awakening (Frühlingserwachen am Wagram) focusing on the new wine. Local wineries warmly invite the public to sample the new wine from 5 through 7 May.

The season for wine festivals begins in early summer when the weather starts getting warmer. In Langenlois, all wine cellar doors on Sauberg open up from 25 to 27 August. This is a unique vantage point from which to view the major wine town of Langenlois below and the unique LOISIUM wine complex located there. On 10 and 11 June, Traismauer stages its cellar festival and wine tour on Ahrenberger Kellergasse, a traditional cellar-lined lane. A very special festival takes place from 11 through 13 August. The Rieslingfest in the lovely Renaissance-style Teisenhoferhof in Weissenkirchen offers dance music, a traditional frühschoppen concert, and the awarding of the Riesling Order on Sunday afternoon. Regional delicacies and tasty Wachau wines pamper the palate.
