Keynote speech: shore power supply
The presentation mainly deals with the shore-side power supply of stationary cabin vessels along the Austrian Danube waterway, considering international developments.
Cabin vessels generally offer the comfort of floating hotels, resulting in high energy consumption. The purpose of this initiative is to switch off the diesel-powered generators for the power supply on cabin ships at the main mooring points (mooring hot spots). This avoids noise, exhaust fumes and climate-damaging CO2 and considers the interests of users, neighbours and customers.
Following the coordination, planning, decision-making and realisation steps that have already taken place, power supply systems for stationary cabin vessels are in operation for the first time in Austria in the 2024 season. The presentation will provide an overview of initial experiences and lessons learned and compare these with international developments.
In addition, viadonau will present further potential for the greening of cabin shipping/inland waterway transport.
