The Danube - Modern & Contemporary

This trip along the Danube begins in Passau and ends in Hainburg. Seven days of travel are recommended for the entire 350 km trip. Given the hours of the galleries and museums along the way, Tuesday is the recommended day to begin the tour. The itinerary is meant as a suggestion. Please feel free to modify it to fit your personal preferences.

Recommended route

Day 1: From a baroque city to a cultural capital
Passau, the City of Three Rivers, marks the grand beginning of this tour. From there, you pass by pristine forested slopes and ravines, then cross the fertile Eferding Basin to the cultural capital of Linz.

Day 3: From Linz into the Strudengau
Today you continue following the Danube downstream. The trip takes you to Mauthausen and through the fertile Machland into the town of Grein, the gateway to the legendary Strudengau.

Day 5: The plain begins
From the city of Krems, the tour today takes you through the sweeping Tulln Basin to well-known Tulln, the Garden City, and beyond to cosmopolitan Vienna.

Day 7: The last intact riparian wetlands & the Austrian border
On this final stage, you leave vibrant Vienna and pass through the rambling Marchfeld. There is a final natural highlight - the Danube wetlands (Nationalpark Donau-Auen)!
